FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS AN OCULOPLASTIC SURGEON?

Because of the complexity and importance of the eyes, treating the surrounding areas should be reserved for only surgeons with the highest level of expertise. An oculoplastic, or oculofacial plastic surgeon is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has completed additional fellowship training that focuses exclusively on the eyelids, eyebrows, orbits, mid-face and tear ducts.

There are only a few hundred surgeons worldwide who are trained and accredited by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASOPRS), the governing body of the field.
